Yes. Or, I suppose, in a way. But don't let that dissuade. These are awesome, when you find them. I see why your grandma kept it. It's a definite, definite keeper. The retail value? Ahh. But I don't know anyone who doesn't keep these.

My heart skipped a beat CRH nickels a few years ago

 

If you look at your first picture you can see a line going around the circumference of the coin, that is the seam where the teo pieces were put together. also, it will probably make a different sound than an unaltered coin when you flip it in the air or drop it on a hard surface.

 

@Heavymetal, we got a two-headed nickel, too, lol! Here’s ours...

 

When running across a coins such as this, I always check the edge for any signs of tooling and then the outer edge of the obverse/reverse for any signs of a line.
I can see a line around the outer edge on your photos, so a magician's coin, IMHO.

 

The two pictures are identical. They can not be "a" coin.

Look up in the sky !!!!!!!!......its . Someone should photograph the edge their magician quarter or a close up it on the obverse or reverse seam. I suspect that with the small "hobby" type of CNC setup could make them fairly close.
