My only objective over almost 50++yrs has been just enjoyment of the art + engraving of all types coins+notes.
but hand engraving die is slowly a dieing art
:( as Computer aided engraving take over.

but change is good there are many thing a computer aide engraving that man nor woman can not do.

 But this push for computerized money may do a way coins + note, that I do fear that!

I am glad you posted this Detecto. I am encouraged by the responses. :)

I buy anything I am attracted to. I buy things I just want to learn more about, since by buying it I am more likely to want to learn about it.

Its one of the freedoms I liked in ancients, since there can never be a "set" really, you buy what makes you happy. in the end, that is the only reason we are in this hobby anyway, to be happy. If buying coins makes you miserable, find something else to do in life.

Nothing wrong with that at all.

I don't know. I brought it loose, and I'm far from an expert in grading these. All I know is I picked it up and I looked at it and saw the molded backgrounds and thought to myself, my god - that is amazing. So i brought and took pictures of it.

Its a good one, thats for sure! :)

Personally my collection does have a direction. I collect whatever I think I can make a buck on :D.

My objective in the hobby is to have fun collecting, and not ever have buyer's remorse over any purchase.

No worries Detecto! It's all good! I have severe ADHD when it comes to collecting. Aside from Jefferson nickels and my Type Set, I am all over the board. One month it's German marks, then Roosies, over to Mercury dimes for no apparent reason. No matter what it is though, it's always good times.

What am I on this week? Ike dollars and Kennedy halves. There is been a lot of buzz around this forum about Ikes, I decided to bust my hoard and take a good look at them.
What about next week? No idea, but it will be something, and it will be enjoyable. :)

Just don't go over to the dark side and start collecting stamps or something.

Yes i do and its probably because you and I have a more limited income then some others on this site.....if I were pulling down six figures and had no family or if I was older(no offense anyone) I would probably try to put together some sort of set but since I am young I just collect what I like and can afford like you.....doesn't make me feel bad though

Nope. :) Six figure income will not change a person's collecting patterns, trust me.

I have been trying to get at least one coin from each series, provided I can afford it. But my main objective is still my Morgan collection, if one I want pops up and I see it I'm going to try to get that before anything else.

But I think many collectors just collect whatever appeals to them. The only objective you need is to enjoy your coins.

As long as you know what you're doing and how to spot a replica from an original.

Yeah, I wouldn't touch that field with a 10 foot pole. If someone thinks coins can be hard to learn, try that market. Brutal. My cousin is into them, has been for 30 years, and even he says he gets scared by some of the pieces.

I started looking at firearms from the 1800s, specifically Civil War era on. It was challenging, and there is much to learn, which I have yet to learn myself. But I do feel comfortable with it. My favorite is the granddaddy of all time.

Yeah, I have kind of a hodge podge of this and that too. That said, I do have a bunch of small collections of tokens, like beer tokens, car tokens or whatever. There's nothing wrong with not having a clear cut objective. We live and we learn. As long as you're happy with your collection then that's really all that matters.
