Spend that $100.00 as if it were your own. Buy something that you would add to your own collection. If she's not happy with the purchase, you keep it and refund her money. Nobody loses.
2 to 3 coins at most. An IHC can easily get over $100 unslabbed. Visit many tables to find what dealers have the best prices for the type of coins you are interested in. Not sure if Matt (Lostdutchman) will have a table or not but I would highly recommend him as he is someone I have bought from and sold coins to.
Speaking of which........where the devil has he been? I don't see him around here anymore. I do see that he is still a Mod, so he must look in from time to time.
This thread has taken a long and windy path to get here. lol After reading some of the comments I started thinking, yeah, maybe this is a little weird but I also thought that it was likely posters were letting their imaginations run wild and we didn't have the full story. I still think it's kind of a weird favor for someone to ask without giving you any inclination of what coins they want. Would it make a good impression if you bought one you really liked that slightly exceeded the $100 and you covered the (moderate amount) extra? Or are there not points to be won here? lol
I bought a few coins for her and will be giving them to her tomorrow. All the wild imaginations here are rediculous. I have known this woman and her husband for 22 years. I am 41 years old and she is 72. Anyways, I think I did a good job on what I got. I got her my favorite coins like someone suggested. I don't have them in front of me so I don't know the exact dates and mint marks. But I got her a Morgan (1904), Walker, Standing Liberty, Merc, an IFC, and a 2016 ASE. Nothing slabbed but all pretty nice condition.
Nice job. Yeah, it was a platonic relationship, a relative or something. Sounds like you got some good raw coins
The president of my company is an avid flag collector and US history buff (especially Civil War era). I picked him up a high grade "The Flag of Our Union" CWT and he loved it. It wasn't something he even knew existed but it tied in nicely to his main collection. So my point is the thing she might like best may not be something she asks for or even knows about. It might even be exonumia or a world coin.
