She told me customer (collector) brought in 10 rolls of cents. Saying he was thinning out him collection. So I purchased them. They were 10 rolls of assorted 1982 cents. Small and large dated P’s and D’s. I know to check the small D’s. But are any of the others worth keeping. Copper or Zink etc..
Weigh them and separate into the 7 common types. Copper or zinc, large date small date, Philly or Denver. Then apply normal condition criteria: Wear, luster, contact, strike and die deterioration. You’re looking for Reds with little to no wear, lots of luster clear of deterioration and stains with a strong strike on both sides. Watch out for split-plating on the zincs…imo…Spark
I would except Mader just gave you the grand daddy of the 82's. I have looked for these varieties for years and have never found any luck. I have found the die punch many times. My DDO was one of my first significant doubled die specimens. The quick diagnostic on this variety is the abraded obverse die to remove a clash. The doubling on IGWT is fairly evident after that.
