This past March I proudly finished one of my smaller, though most expensive sets. I suppose technically this set started back when I got the first coin in 2013. Back then, as my collection began to expand into gold, I got the 1928 quarter eagle because it was one of the more affordable gold type coins and because I find it exceptionally cool, being only one of only two incuse US designs; the other being its half eagle counterpart which I picked up the following year. Then from there, this set sat dormant for eight years.

In late February, 2020, to commemorate finally paying off my student loans, I rewarded myself with the pinnacle of my collection, the 1908 St.Gaudens double eagle. Realizing that I had 3 of 8 coins necessary for the set, I started setting aside money to focus on completing this set. Over the past four years I got the remaining pieces culminating in the 1904 Liberty double eagle this past March.

The set is currently ranked 73rd (110th all time) on the set registry; link.
