If it's not too late, I thought I'd post a few of my favorites of this past year. I ended up attracted to some republican issues, but all in all, it's mostly just what grabbed my attention. in no particular order... 1. Valerius Flaccus denarius , C. 82 BCE 2. sestertius of Caracalla with reverse of Isis stepping on a crocodile (ouch!). 3. Den. Tampillius Baebius c. 125 BCE 4. my first dabbling with Byzantine - follis of Justinian 5. denarius of Octavian with Pax on reverse holing out olive branch and cornucopia. 6. sestertius of Nero 7. sestertius of Caracalla with reverse of Providentia 8. RR denarius of Postumius Albinus , C. 86 BCE. 9. Galba sestertius with reverse of Roma 10.
That Valerius Flaccus of yours is my #1 as well. I've sought one for a few years now. And years is such a wonderful example And both of your Caracalla and Nero Sestertius are incredible. Thanks for sharing your stunning year... excited to see what part two looks like!
Too late? The year hasn't even ended yet! Great list . I'd love to have that Octavian denarius-- been wanting an anepigraphic example since I started collecting but things just haven't aligned. That Caracalla sestertius with Isis, emperor, and croc reverse... ! Want . The Nero and Galba are also terrific. Congrats on the great year!
A great list. 1, 3, 5, 8, and 9 are my favorites: three RR's, the Galba sestertius, and the beautiful Octavian denarius.
What a beautiful example of that Valerius Flaccus! All the other coins on your list are remarkable too. The Galba and Nero sestertii, and the Byzantine follis, are especially impressive. And I love the reverse of that Caracalla sestertius with Isis!
