Got this in the mail today. I won it last week in an online auction. Funny thing is the TY in Liberty look strangely doubled. I haven't found anything like it. Any comments? Thanks: Lou
Beautiful Silver Quarter. $10.00 is excellent.. That's not a Doubled Die issue though. I think it has something to do with die deterioration.
Looks so strange to me. The T actually looks folded over. Weird coin-still I think I got my money's worth. Thanks: Lou
As @paddyman98 stated, it appears to be die deterioration. If you look closely on the reverse the same applies. A visual clue is when the peripheral devices start spreading toward the rim.
What do you mean folded over? Are you saying that there is extra raised metal. between the T and rim? Just not seeing it.
It a beautiful silver quarter minted with some die wear. You did good for the price you paid but it’s just not an error coin.
That's what I'm saying. I thought it may be a bar error, but I forgot that was on Jefferson nickles. On top of the T in Liberty it looks like a folded towel. I guess as paddyman said - just a deteriorated die.
It could be a folded over finned rim. Or simply a small retained struck thru debri. I am hoping it is the latter. Cause thats a nice looking PF.
I don't think it's either. I think is die deterioration. Here's a couple of close ups. I tried to get a side view but I'm afraid that isn't very good. I added a close up of the motto so you can see the deterioration. Thanks: Lou
I haven't - don't know if I can do that with my celestron. Are you using some kind of special filters? BTY-I just won this 76 proof set. I bought it because the mint mark looks very strange, with luck I'll have it in several days. The attached pic is from the web site so you can't tell much, but the S mint mark looks like a square.
