Recently I purchased a couple of Whitman, blue coin boxes full of Unc/MS LMC's with all the coins in square plastic holders. All from 1959 - 1982. I pretty much paid for the plastic, but cost is really not relevant. Just thought I could find some better specimens for my album. And I have. Some dates/mm have more than one specimen. As I found with the 1970-S. Which always get a close scrutinization from me. Anyway here is a coin with 7 errors/abnormalities on it. The majority are struck-thru thread/lint errors with one retained. and a Retained Struck-thru thread. One Struck-thru Grease/Debris. and one common Die Crack. Thanks for looking. Post any multi-error coins, or any you feel relevant.
It's strange to think that thread/lint could cause that much indentation at that psi into metal. Cool pics - thanks for sharing
Oh Sal, I do understand your POV, being "in training" and all. I think you would do well to look closely, and with an open mind at the photos I posted, so you might recognize this type of error the next time you see it. At least check to see who posted likes.
Sorry, that was incorrect wording on my part. It's interesting to me that thread/lint could cause that much indentation, I mean. Not strange to think.
I was just pleased to see that someone/somewhere still uses the same exact storage box(es) and Whitman 2x2 snap-tites that I do (in part)...and have, since boyhood...!
I use paper 2 x 2 for coins I want to keep and Slabs for coins (flawless) I want to sell. https://www.thecoinsupplystore.com/collections/coin-slabs
I use 2x2 self stick, flat staple them for added protection. I also use slabbed and often graded coins for long term security. I purchase but never sell, I leave that to my heirs, I want to enjoy my collection as long as I can! Great post thanks.
The blue plastic boxes are fine for simple storage, but do they protect against humidity, smoke, other gases? Of course not. I would think that anyone who wants to really protect their worthwhile coins (sentimental and/or valuable) would want to really protect them. DANSCO Album 7000 will hold up to 72 coins (six pages) enclosed in 2x2's. With the protective slip cover, these coins are truly protected from the elements. IMHO that is the way to go. Protective slip cover should be replaced every 10 years to maintain protection from the elements. Almost all my worthwhile (sentimental/valuable) coins in 2x2 flips are stored in DANSCO 7000 albums. I guess it also helps to live in a dry climate (southern Nevada) and smoke-free environment.
Nice score on the Lincoln's I'm always looking for deals on eBay picked up a 1970s small day business strike last night Couldn't pass it up for one cent . I'll start a thread when it comes in . Carry on ...
