As Ive now come to find out after months of research, my collection includes over 100 mule notes, which I had recently thought were worth face value (New York, Boston) for example are usually the largest print run of any district, but for mule notes, new york and boston are actually the rarest in some cases due to dates of plate usage. I stumbled upon a useful post in the PCGS forum for anyone looking into mule notes

I also found a copy of the article which he is analyzing

I have compiled a list of plate number ranges used to identify mules, I found this the easiest way to identify them, I dont have hawk eyes after all.

How to use this list: (Last micro number means any plate number smaller than this is micro, First Macro number means any plate number larger then this is macro size.

Denomination Last Micro Number First Macro Number
    1 929 930
    2 288 289
    5 938 939
    10 584 585
    20 317 318
    100 112 113

$50 is very hard to get info on but I have found some looking at the plate #'s in $50 mules in heritages past sales

Some example of possible mule notes
    $1 Silver Cert 1935/1935A
    $2 Red Seal 1928D
    $5 silver cert 1934A/1934B/1934C
    $5 Hawaii 1934
    $5 FR Note 1934A
    $5 Red Seal 1928C/1928E
    $10 Silver Cert 1934
    $10 N. Africa 1934
    $10 FR Note 1934/1934A
    $20 FR Note 1934/1934B
    $50 FR Note 1934C/1950
    $100 FR Note 1934A/1934B/1934C/1934D

Hope this helps you save some time. took me a while to compile.

Thanks for posting this information on mules. Most of my notes are only donkeys.
