MS70 on common coins?

    Unless you dig a coin out of the mud or dirt while metal detecting, just forget about cleaning.

    If this cleaner is a strong alkaline, it contains a significant amount of the unstable molecule, "(OH-)". (OH-)'s only goal in life is to grab a hydrogen atom from anything with which it comes into contact. Apologies to the residue of readers who remember this basic stuff from high school Chem. The question is: what is the significance of (OH-) grabbing a hydrogen atom from the discoloured surface of a coin?
