Let me go out on a limb here for a second Ben. Did my topic trip your trigger a teeny bit? ;) I'm not going to say I disagree with you as I really don't. I've just toned down how I express it over time here on CT. Yes, it is a game and the TPGs do come out on top as well as the dealers. We'll slab stuff all day for the grade if we think it might get it then put it on the 'bay so someone can pay a ridiculous premium of THEIR choosing. Give me a legint, high grade "real" coin every time. They tend to hold value. Walk into the shop with your PCGS MS70 whatever and the first thing we do is look it up on ebay. If we DO find a few recent completed auctions we'll give you a "fair" price. "Fair" being we'll put it up and make a few bucks. This is one of the ways a shop makes money. We've been watching the 2009 Ultra High Relief coins the past few days. Folks are PRE selling these and getting $1400 plus! Hello, order it from the mint if you want it. Save a few bucks (or hundreds). On the other hand you could get an MS69 or 70 from Chattanooga Coin. I'm sure some of you have seen the pre-sell ads in magazines. Sure, they'll have them and you can get one at an exhorbitant price of $2000 plus. I don't remember the exact price because I just turn the page at work and laugh. NGC slabs by the way from what I can tell. So let's think about this folks. A huge "dealer" (and I use the term oh so lightly) can presell these coins because they KNOW they will most likely meet demand. If not it's just a refund and "out of stock". Ding, ding, ding! Warning bells! The technolgy exists at the mint for them to turn out "69s and 70s" all day. I'm still waiting to see an actual MS70 though. For what it's worth I bought my Ultra High Relief. Didn't want it nor can I afford it. The boss has already paid me for it plus a bonus (wouldn't have wasted my time for nothing). I've got my money and he'll make his. Works for me. Thanks for your rant Ben Peters. Got me fired up again. clembo
