I stopped in the shop yesterday; had a list about half a dozen Lincoln Cents...all Wheaties AU and Early proofs (pre 1950's), chosen from their website I have interest. I tell the clerk if they have these I would like to look them over. Clerk asked if I was interested in buying...I said no...not initially; this is my first time in the shop and I wanted to check out their stock and grading/prices to get familiar with what they have vs my needs. He brings out 4 from my list and says "not to be an ******* but I can't keep bringing out coins to look over if you're not interested in buying". How is THIS to talk to a counter customer??? I asked what's the problem...it's not like I asked for 30 coins and am loitering in the shop wasting time. I was in the shop only 5 minutes so far tops. I perused and chose 2 Coinworld magazines to purchase; I initially went there to get a newest copy of the Redbook but they had none. The clerk said he was there to sell coins, not to let people look over stuff so he would not bring any more out without a commitment to purchase first...evidently sight unseen. So its...you no buy, no coins for you. They surely discouraged over-the-counter service...and did so in spades. During my wait for the coins two employees were discussing telephone customers...and in a very disparaging manner. The younger of the pair turned to me and asked if he could help me because "I was sitting there staring at them". I replied I was just waiting for the other clerk and could not help but listen in the tiny showroom. It was very bizarre. Th shop goes under the name Annapolis Coin Exchange, especially for buying gold and silver, for its storefront. Behind the door in the back its the Mt Vernon Coin Company for internet sales. Their Better Business Bureau certificate states they have a B rating...I'm surprised its THAT high. I told him that I would have purchased the 1932 Proof but he can keep it...AND the magazines I was going to buy. So yes clerk...you meant to be an *******. And succeeded. Goodbye. No internet sales from me for you.
