Nice finds BigsWick. Nice signature too. Hehe. And, Randall Zink, that is a very cool thing to do. Who knows, some kid might find that coin and become a collector.
I always use large bills everywhere just to get change. One time a clerk at a store said she had to much change and would I mind taking most of my change in coins. I did and didn't look at it till I got home. I had received about 30 Buffalo Nickels and about 30 Mercury Dimes as part of that change. I went back to that store in a flash but the clerk said she finally got rid of all that excess change.
2000 1 oz. Platinum bullion medal-coin. KLJ,what denomination is the 2000 1 oz. Platinum bullion medal-coin that your wife got in as change? Aidan.
That was the first thing I did ya know after reading the story. Check the denomination and price of the 1oz Platinum coin.
This just proves a good point--"Youth is often wasted on the young" Any who-- I once recieved a 1948 Canadian dime from my coin dealer in change. It was great fun doing the research to find that it was indeed 80% silver. My wife is the lucky one though, and the reason I collect today. She keeps changes to make dollars then hundreds of dollars. She has found about twenty Mercs several IHN and a hand full of Walker in the last 10 years. All of which are in my (our) collection today. She has a keen sense for the sound of silver coins.
i received a canadian dime in change at a bookstore in austin texas related to the "stupid teenagers" I was in a coin shop when this kid came in with a sock, inside the sock wehre 1oz eagles and even a couple of proofs! they had been removed form the mint capsules and where just banging around. they looked awful. He said his grandparents had gotten him a proof/unc gold coin every year. So he sold them to the dealer, who paid melt for them (the proofs where so damaged and fingerprinted thats all they where worth) He said he was selling them to buy a new car stereo!!!! I can say lots fo mean things about this kid. lets just say i don't like his type (ungrateful suburban rich kids)
silver In the past year my wife, daughter and a freind have all found silver dimes in change. Today was finally my day, I found a 47 roosevelt in change. yesterday I got a five dollar star note, but its well worn.
In 1992, while in Panama, I paid for a cup of coffee at the office and the guy gave me change containing 3 buffalo nickels. What a great place to find coins! They use American paper money in Panama, but they mint coins (called Bolivars) that are the same size as quarters, nickels, and dimes. They even work in vending machines.
I'm pretty sure the US dollar is an official currency in Panama. Which isn't really surprising considering Panama's history.
In circulation, I got an 1880 spanish 50 centavos as a dime once. And the otherday at the bank when I cashed my check, they bank gave me 3 uncirulated 1977 $20 bills and an uncirculated 1969c $50 bill. I doubt they are worth very much but Im going to hold onto them. But the best Ive ever found Id have to say is a 1995 $1 bill that I believe is whats called a bleed through, where all the ink from the front is clearly visible on the back, dont know what its worth, if anyone can tell me it would be appreciated. I put it up for auction on ebay twice so far, both times it went up to $40 and didnt meet my reserve. And my girlfriend works at papa ginos on the cash register, so I told her to a few things to look for, and told her to grab anything she thought was different. So far she came home with 2 silver dimes, a silver certificate from 1935 and I was impressed when she cracked open a solid roll of wheat pennies. Nothing too special but there was 10 BU steel pennines from the roll. I was very happy when she brought me those.
I'd have offered to hit him with the sock for free... :computer: :hammer: :computer: :hammer: It's for all that base, yo! :goofer:
