I love finding Ikes in banks. Ugly coin, but big and felt a bit more like a dollar should.

Oversexed - Morgans. I have probably a hundred or so of them, but again I think the obverse is unattractive. And I agree with the other forum "black cat" that Seated dollars are under rated - They have a low mintage and really low availability vs. Morgans and Peace. I have a few circulateds, an O mintmark and a proof from the 1860s to attest to my interests in them.

Undersexed - Shield nickels. The things are just little pains in the arse as far as finding a nice well struck example with original mint bloom on them. I bought one from that notorious Maryland coinworld advertiser years ago and returned it. Never had one since. Not for not looking either, I look all the time.

Amen on the shield nickels. I am on the hunt for one now that I like.

Sacs sure don't get much attention.

I think if small dollars ever get into circulation things will probably change.

I agree that Sacagawea dollars are underrated, given how it could be circulated in the US, similar to how 1 and 2 Euro/Pound coins get more attention in Europe.

Anyway, how about specimens, such as the 1891 Barber half, that never get approved for circulation?

Early 20th century classic coins that were collected by series by older collectors will be relegated to the ranks of type coin collections, which is why many very low mintage 19th century coins sell for little premium compared to their higher mintage counterparts.

Newer issues that aren't even mentioned here, that will be collected by series by new generations of collectors, are the underrated coins/series. They are so underrated, no one even thinks to mention them. Many of these coins can be had today at close to face or melt value, so they may see the highest rate of appreciation.

I like that obverse vs. the mannish design of the chosen coin, but I like the reverse of the chosen Barber half better. Too much broccoli on that specimen.

image.jpeg image.jpeg Case in point mintage 7500. In most series this would be an ultra rarity and be financially untouchable for me. I bought this for the same money as a low grade 93-s Morgan brings

image.jpeg I think 19th c proofs are hugely undervalued too. Great eye appeal in coins with mintages often under 1000 and some have amazing toning too
