    You could try, but acetone will only remove a few things. Do you have any idea what the substance might be ? You should also consider that you could replace the coin with a much nicer one for about $20.

    I have no idea what the substance might be, I just acquired the coin a few days ago. I don't know if you can tell from the pic or not, but the stain seems to be superficial and has a red-ish tint. Also, are you suggesting dicarding this one and buying another one for 20 bucks? not sure why I'd want to do that, I want to keep this one, and if there might be a way to improve it... even better! =)
