I never really got why people love the Morgan design so much. I always thought the eagle on the back looked sickly and the obverse... I don't know, it looked weird to me. The liberty cap always made me think it looked like a nymph or some other mythical forest creature instead of Liberty. But what do I know!
So very True but the human beast has evolved in to a Bit bull it seam like. the hole world need PEACE
I collect both, but prefer the Morgan. In my experience, the Peace dollar set has been a real nightmare to put together. Morgans, on the other hand, I can find everywhere in every grade imaginable. I've always suspected a lot more Peace dollars were melted than we realize. Guy~
This was a really tough question to answer. I like the design of the Peace Dollar better, but the quality and availability of Morgans is very alluring. Taking into consideration that I collect rainbow toned coins, I almost have to vote for the Morgan. But since I acquired this a few weeks ago, I voted for the Peace Dollar.
You might be right. I think the design has some limitations as well, although a really nice Peace Dollar can be something to behold. I have blown up Peace Dollars framed in the house. Check this one out..
I like the Morgan slightly better for the same reason: Still like the Peace Dollar though, it's an apples and orange thing and I like both. Go Phillies! Cole Hamels shut downs Rays tonight!:high5:
consider all these features Based upon only the design, I vote for the Peace. However, based upon: Design Strike Luster Relief Fields Denticles Planchet flaws Die States Die Varieties Water marks Wearability Proof issues DMPL Rainbow toning Quantities available ..... I guess that overall, I vote for the Morgan Very best regards, collect89
my thoughts exactely. Too bad the obverse toned to a brown color (and looks dirty almost) but the reverse is amazing!!!:thumb:
I kind of like the obverse that;s what makes these coins so attractive there all unique. Jazzcoins Joe:whistle:
That is because it is the ultra rare steel obverse variety of the Peace Dollar. For about the 5th time, the term rust only applies to ferrous alloys (iron & steel). Using that term with relation to coins is purely propaganda to scare others away from toned coins. Ruben, do you think this coin should be dipped to remove the horrible corrosion? or maybe you think this one should be cracked out and dipped. :mouth:
actually, the corrosion on the obverse makes her look like she has a curly mustache like Rollie Fingers. My guess is that it doesn't look that bad in the hand. Ruben
Wow, I never noticed that. I also want to thank you for making a civil and productive post. Congrats!
