Did you see the PCGS 67 blast white 82s with rare curvy bowl dish type luster Messydesk did an animated gif on in my ana pickups thread Leigh? Only blast white Morgan I've seen in hand that gave me the same feeling of seeing a true neon monster toner so I had to have it. I know what you mean :)

Didn't see it, but this 1881-S Morgan Dollar PCGS MS69 CAC Jack Lee impressed me.

I've been at 10, today maybe 8.85, but really nothing to not like about them IMO. Many dates are common, but still every coin is different, just waiting for the collector to evaluate every aspect of it. Differences in strike, luster, contact marks, toning, originality, wear, etc. make every coin an individual. Plus they're big, heavy, historic, detailed.....just very cool.

    8. They are interesting and challenging, but everyone collect them. Go to coin shows and you will see buttloads of Morgans. I like a little uniqueness, but I respect the Morgan collectors big time.

Once you go VAM that aspect is moot ;)

I like to refer to coins like that as "able to signal neighboring villages." :)

I'd say overall I'm a 6 or 7 on the series. An individual coin can definitely rate higher (say, a monster toner, or a cameo proof, or something like this coin.)

As a series, they're just too darn expensive and there are too many of them to keep my interest. Who wants to look at 95 coins that all look mostly alike, anyway?

Again. With vamming all of those 95 coins will look completely different or at least most. That's the draw of VAMs. It brings a whole new perspective to Morgan's one cannot understand until one dives into the deep end. Once you go VAM nothing else compares period. That's the true dichotomy of Morgan's. They all look the same until you step through the looking glass :)

It's like this: There are as many VAMs known today - and the count is nowhere near finished - as combined total Overton Varieties for Bust Halves and Sheldon Varieties for Early Large Cents. In the first three years of Morgan issues.

Yup. I believe the count is around 6k known/documented vams so far. And 5 are mine :)

    8. Very available in Mint State and they look very nice when so. I just like a few other series better.

I'll do a parody of this thread with Seated coins instead.

Alough I see Trade Dollars as a bridge between seated and morgans. She's sitting and looks like Anna after a night of hard partying
