Hello, I’m planning on purchasing a Morgan Dollar in a PCGS slab tomorrow. I’m wondering how much should it weigh? I just want to make sure I’m getting an authentic piece. Thanks.
If it is in a genuine PCGS slab then the coin is authenticated as real and the weight won't matter. I don't know what the weight of a slab and coin is. But Morgan dollars weigh 26.7 grams + or - .097 gram.
that will vary a bit with each of the holder types.. PCGS alone has at least 10-12 different slabs over the years each with a slightly different weight. On a side note i generaly "trust" PCGS holders.. the fakes I have run across are usualy pretty obvious
Then it might be a fake slab or coin or most likely both are fake then but type it in again just in case if you messed up
Wow a cc nice morgan I would buy that in a heart beat. I like cc morgans that most can afford in high grade. DON'T have a cc yet but if I were to buy one I would want mine in a pcgs certified gsa holder a little more pricey than normal slab cc morgan but I just like em the gsa morgans are just another part of coin history with the coin which matters the most.
You do know that PCGS encapsulates the entire GSA case in their own slab which is much larger, don't you? On the other hand, NGC uses a tamper-resistant tape to seal the GSA case and doesn't have a need for a larger slab.
Thats what i meant NGC not pcgs wasn't really thinking at 11-12 at night very tired but couldn't fall asleep.
You won't have any trouble finding one. Found ten of these in safety deposit box after Mom passed last April.
