Hello, my name is Bonyfish and I'm a Morgaholic! I have been collecting for less than a year, and only started getting into Morgans about a month ago. I don't have that many yet, but plan on collecting as many as possible. Anybody else feel the same way and have some pics they would like to share?
Some great looking Morgans everyone! I like them when they are PL/DMPL, or have a circulated cameo look or are nicely toned. I also enjoy them individually when they are white... I just find a grouping of all white ones kind of boring.
this is an 1886 with some kind of strike through just to the side of the eagles left wing. I also have a 1900 that has this same strike through, so I am wondering if it is common.
It isn't a strikethrough. It's a die clash from the vee of Liberty's cap. Sometimes on the reverse, you will also see Liberty's profile (bridge of nose, lips & chin) between the eagle's right wing (viewer's left) and the lefthand wreath. On the obverse, you might also see the leading edge of the eagle's right wing extending from Liberty's neck in a southwest direction. One of the more common letter transfers may be the base of the letter "n" of IGWT that can appear just below this clash. The letter transfer is almost always mentioned in the VAM listings, but the other clashes are very common and don't warrant an attribution. Chris
