I don't have a reference for this coin (except the Red Book). It's a US 1834 $5 gold Classic Head Half Eagle in an NGC Slab, XF-45. It's labeled Plain 4, Script 8. The Red Book (as a footnote) mentions two varieties: Script 8 and Block-style 8. Is there any significant difference in the coin's value between the two styles of the 8?
PCGS shows a plain 4 and a Crosslet 4 and there is substantial value differences, Crosslet being the more desired one. But no mention of the 8. Edited, as I should have said - no mention of the 8 in 1834. There are block answers script 8's in other years.
NGC lists both Block 8 and Script 8 for 1834 $5 in Variety Plus. Neither their price guide nor census shows Block 8 or Script 8 though, just Plain 4. https://www.ngccoin.com/variety-plus/united-states/gold-half-eagles/classic-head-5-1834-1838/816226/
Thanks for the replies. I conclude that there's no significant value difference between the two varieties.
