Looks like the 2013 $2 Single Note set is coming... http://www.moneyfactorystore.gov/20132singlenotecollection.aspx Most of the time I think that I am the only person interested in these things...but, they sell out fairly quickly, so...
Are there not as many bill collectors as coin collectors? I noticed they're limiting the sale to 4000 notes. Couldn't they have done up to 10000 matching (also curious on why they're non-matching) sets? Edit: Nevermind. I just realized that they may have to buyback (or something) the 2003 and 2009 notes.
i stopped buying these a while ago. can't justify spending $31 for a $2 bill. their resale value is horrible. i had a hard time selling them at $8. PASS!!!!
The 2013 Double Deuce set was only 2 notes and sold for $34.95 limited to 5,000 sets and sold out. This 2013 Single Note set is 4 notes and sells for $31.80 limited to 4,000 sets.....and I'm guessing will also sell out. I'm not trying to talk anybody into buying the set, just crunching the numbers for you. BTW, some of the 2013 Double Deuce sets have done very well on eBay, http://www.ebay.com/sch/Paper-Money...kw=double+deuce&LH_Complete=1&LH_Sold=1&rt=nc
I was able to sell an extra double duce set for about double what I paid. I have not yet sold an extra Founding Fathers set I have... I look at these things like a lottery ticket so I like to buy a couple and play. I do think this will do well, as Steve outlined above: with only 4,000 sets and 4 $2's in the set I think they will do well. I am not sure how the non matching serials will turn out...
Judging by the sets released earlier, the NY and SF notes are ordinary circulation-issue notes from the B..A and L..A blocks. These two printings ran up to B32000000A and L38400000A, so the 2013xxxx serial numbers are well within the range. So you have the opportunity to pay $7.95 for a bill that's exactly like the ones you can get at the bank for $2. The Minneapolis and Kansas City notes are at least special collector printings, blocks I..D and J..D. The BEP has only released 25,000 notes for each of these two blocks (including the 4000 in this product). So if you collect this kind of thing, then they might be worth $7.95 to you. Myself, I've already got the 2011xxxx notes from these blocks, so I'm done until the BEP actually prints something new, instead of just offering the same product as last year with slightly updated packaging.
I ordered a set today. The four $2 bills are worth $8, and the shipping is worth $4.95, so I'm only paying $19 or $4.75each for the fancy note holders (good deal). There are now only 3,999 available, hurry and get yours!
The BEP store Web site was so hammered when I ordered, I accidentally placed my order twice... I agree with Clay, and will probably pick up 2 or 3 sets. On a different Forum I read an interesting post from one of the members that might have created more of an interest in the Gettysburg set..... ....and I quote, " If youre celebrating the 150th anniversary maybe they could have done matching low $5's and $50's for the two people that were actually involved in the war. Would have sold out immediately. " I agree with this also.
That actually makes good sense. I'm guess they did the $2 & $5 because that is what was in the 2012 150th anniv. set. Still, the $5 & $50 combo would have made more sense relative to the war. I'm hoping I can get my one set before they sell out. Tuesday mornings are rough because I have a regular meeting at 9 and the BEP site always gets overwhelmed when these releases happen. On a somewhat unrelated topic... Does anyone think there will be special collectibles for the release if the new $100 note in October?
I am going to buy at least 1 Gettysburg set. I really like the 2 dollar bill. That is what i collect most in paper money.
I like that $5 + $50 idea. They could have included the Gettysburg stamp that was released this year too. Oh well...
I didn't know there was a Gettysburg stamp out. I might go get a sheet to go with the set. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 4
Probably a first day issue in a leather pouch or something similar. The Franklin Mint did one for the first day issues of the Bicentennials. I bought the two dollar one. They are well made and look nice.
