This one has always been one of my favorites: It's the Ojays!

Money money money money, money (x6)
Some people got to have it
    Some people really need it
Listen to me y'all, do things, do things, do bad things with it
You wanna do things, do things, do things, good things with it
    Talk about cash money, money
Talk about cash money- dollar bills, yall

    For the love of money
People will steal from their mother
    For the love of money
People will rob their own brother
    For the love of money
People can't even walk the street
Because they never know who in the world they're gonna beat
For that lean, mean, mean green
    Almighty dollar, money

    For the love of money
People will lie, Lord, they will cheat
    For the love of money
People don't care who they hurt or beat
    For the love of money
A woman will sell her precious body
For a small piece of paper it carries a lot of weight
Call it lean, mean, mean green

    Almighty dollar

I know money is the root of all evil
Do funny things to some people
Give me a nickel, brother can you spare a dime
Money can drive some people out of their minds

Got to have it, I really need it
How many things have I heard you say
    Some people really need it
How many things have I heard you say
Got to have it, I really need it
How many things have I heard you say
Lay down, lay down, a woman will lay down
    For the love of money
All for the love of money
Don't let, don't let, don't let money rule you
    For the love of money
    Money can change people sometimes
Don't let, don't let, don't let money fool you
    Money can fool people sometimes
People! Don't let money, dont let money change you,
it will keep on changing, changing up your mind.

Can't believe no one has mentioned one of my favorites-- "Here's a Quarter, Call Someone Who Cares!" Of course it costs more than a quarter to make a phone call anymore, if you can even find a pay phone!

Then there was old Bing Crosby and his song, "I found a Million Dollar Baby (at a five and ten cent store)

Well, Bing isn't here any more, and neither are any of the old five and dimes. Am I the only one who remembers such things?

    Old Dan,

I remember getting our school supplies every August at the 5 & 10 up the block in the late 60s to 70s in NYC.

Hey Dan - re-read the 6th post in this thread! :D

I think the post-bankruptcy K-Mart is the only direct descendant of the five and dimes from our youth. The old K-Mart used to be Kresge, many decades ago. ;)

This one even mentions some mints :D .

"Take for example when you go to the movies these days, you know.
They try to sell you this jumbo drink, 8 extra ounces of watered
down Cherry Coke for an extra 25 cents. I don't want it.
I don't want that much organziation in my life.
I don't want other people thinking for me.
I want my Junior Mints. Where did the Junior Mints go in the
    movies! I don't want a 12 lb. Nestle's Crunch for 25 dollars! I
    want Junior Mints."

Just the sound of coins hitting the cashier's box is music to me! Just like from the Pink Floyd song...

    It Stoned Me (Van Morrison)

Half a mile from the county fair
And the rain keep pourin' down
    Me and Billy standin' there
With a silver half a crown
Hands are full of a fishin' rod
And the tackle on our backs
We just stood there gettin' wet
With our backs against the fence

    Oh, the water
    Oh, the water
    Oh, the water
Hope it don't rain all day

    Chorus:
And it stoned me to my soul
Stoned me just like Jelly Roll
    And it stoned me
And it stoned me to my soul
Stoned me just like goin' home
    And it stoned me

Then the rain let up and the sun came up
    And we were gettin' dry
Almost let a pick-up truck nearly pass us by
So we jumped right in and the driver grinned
And he dropped us up the road
We looked at the swim and we jumped right in
    Not to mention fishing poles

    Oh, the water
    Oh, the water
    Oh, the water
Let it run all over me

    Chorus

On the way back home we sang a song
But our throats were getting dry
Then we saw the man from across the road
With the sunshine in his eyes
Well he lived all alone in his own little home
With a great big gallon jar
There were bottles too, one for me and you
And he said Hey! There you are

    Oh, the water
    Oh, the water
    Oh, the water
Get it myself from the mountain stream

"But," says he, 'My fine fellows, if you will enlist
Ten guineas in gold I'll stick in your fist
And a crown in the bargain for to kick up the dust
And drink the king's health in the morning.'"

    Arther McBride--Bob Dylan

This last remind me of an old Chad Mitchell Trio song:

It's your duty to stop a bullet,
    A soldier's job they say.
So when you stop a bullet,
    Then they stop your pay.
