I have seen at $305 for the CC and $199 for the O mint mark consistently. The Mint may have problems with orders but they seem to come through selling out popular item's. Even if some don't have the money what ever is re-offered will be gone instantly upon re sell again imho. Every year the gold is gone at staggering prices. They want this to work in hopes of getting younger collectors interested? It is not considered a commemorative according to the article. I still think it should be a one time Anniversary as intended:stop:.

It'll really take a hit if they become yearly like they're hoping to do

Someone mentioned to me, what happens if the card you used gets hacked during the wait and you have to cancel it? Hadn't considered that. The way it's set up I guess you lose your order.

  6. Dear Valued Customer,

The United States Mint is committed to providing the best possible online experience to its customers. The global silver shortage has driven demand for many of our bullion and numismatic products to record heights. This level of demand is felt most acutely by the Mint during the initial product release of numismatic items. Most recently in the pre-order window for 2021 Morgan Dollar with Carson City privy mark (21XC) and New Orleans privy mark (21XD), the extraordinary volume of web traffic caused significant numbers of Mint customers to experience website anomalies that resulted in their inability to complete transactions.

In the interest of properly rectifying the situation, the Mint is postponing the pre-order windows for the remaining 2021 Morgan and Peace silver dollars that were originally scheduled for June 1 (Morgan Dollars struck at Denver (21XG) and San Francisco (21XF)) and June 7 (Morgan Dollar struck at Philadelphia (21XE) and the Peace Dollar (21XH)). While inconvenient to many, this deliberate delay will give the Mint the time necessary to obtain web traffic management tools to enhance the user experience. As the demand for silver remains greater than the supply, the reality is such that not everyone will be able to purchase a coin. However, we are confident that during the postponement, we will be able to greatly improve on our ability to deliver the utmost positive U.S. Mint experience that our customers deserve. We will announce revised pre-order launch dates as soon as possible.

Thank you for a being a United States Mint customer.

Why do very educated people have no sense, I mean zero... They’ve had many opportunities to improve this system and have chosen every time not to do anything. The fact that they are blaming high silver prices for boosting demand instead of admitting their system is FUBAR shows they still don't have a grasp on the situation. more government bullshit.. change limit to two per houshold instead of ten per... may not be much help but step in right direction there not even close to that simple move...

I would vote for a limit of one and only one order per day.

I agree with limiting the order size. You didn’t have to be a genius to know that these coins would be popular and sell out quickly. Stuff like the Law Enforcement set I bought are as popular as a ghost decoration after Halloween.

Can't speak to government bureaucracy, but having worked IT at too many large companies I can guess at what happened. It's easy to toss up a couple of webservers and call it good; it's much harder (and way more expensive) to set up a proper infrastructure to handle a major rush on your website.

Begging for budget is usually even tougher - you hit brick walls of upper management bean counters (who's bonus depends on them cutting costs) who say "What do you mean you need a better website - you sold out. Budget denied."

It usually takes a ton of customer complaints (and threats of impacting the bottom line) to push past these people and get funding. My guess is that they've hit this wall repeatedly from what I read here. Assuming they got budget this time, the next question is whether they can find someone (or some company) who can rejigger the store with the government budget they got.

    My $.02

  11. Mint to demand?

The previous releases were 1 per household and they had just as bad experience and sold out in 20 minutes as well. I think they thought "if we up the limit to 10, there wont be the massive traffic that causes the problems." That didn't work. They should Institute a lottery system so everyone who wants one has the same chance. Winners get a unique code that is typed in the browser at check out to allow the coin to be placed in your bag and then purchased.

I’m surprised they can get the silver for what’s already promised.

If they can, it would be interesting to see one of them minted to demand just to see how many ended up selling.

At this point I’m thinking there’s almost no hope of getting through for a Peace dollar. So at that, I have also advocated the lottery route so you could send an order in and walk away for the same gamble as having to be glued to a computer for half an hour on a specific time on a weekday and maybe come away empty handed anyway.

(But remember, we’ve been told the mintages are too high for them to maintain value... lol)

Different mintage 30,000 on the American eagle 2019 silver enhanced reverse proof.. one per house.............Comparared to175,000 mintage on the Morgan cc Dollar. They keep doing the same thing over and over expecting a different outcome..

And a cheap one of those ASE sells for $2k. Some go for much more. About 5.8 times the mintage of one of these Morgan’s. Divide that price by 5.8 and you get $344. It doesn’t directly correlate and I know this wasn’t your main argument but i did the math to show how it’s very feasible these Morgans could settle into a $300+ value a piece for the long term. To me they are just as real of Morgans as the old ones. Only made on modern day equipment with modern day problems with the sale. I’d be happy if they were minted to demand and everyone that wanted one could get one. But that’s not even possible if they wanted to.

The same thing could be said about people who complain about their system. Their system works perfectly fine for them 99 percent of the time and it makes no sense to upgrade it for a handful of products a year.

Even if they did upgrade it to handle everything perfectly that just means you'll have less than a minute and probably only 30 or 40 seconds before there's sellouts. You actually have a better chance of getting things with the current system than one that could handle the volume

Lottery system. Random drawing by email accounts. First 175000 drawn get a unique code to use at checkout to allow the coins to be put in your bag for pre order. Winners have 2 weeks to log in an do that.

I would argue that they would have a significant reduction in dissatisfied customers if they were able to present a clean 'out of stock' message when someone tries to purchase, rather than forcing people to wait, watch the webpage time out, watching error pages, try again, rinse lather and repeat, possibly winding up with multiple quantities beyond what they wanted and ultimately ordering it realizing that their chances of changing the quantities and still achieving a purchase are next to nil. That in itself would justify improvement of their 99% perfect system. The 1% is all everyone will report about them. And word of mouth complaints have a proven noticeable effect on repeat and first time purchases.

And when things go out of stock in 30 seconds because everyone gets through at once people will complain about that. Then theyll really complain even more when big companies get the majority of the mintage because all their employees had no problems getting through and were able to successfully order.

People will complain no matter what

It makes no sense to do significant upgrades when you can count the products it would be needed for every year on your fingers.

As I stated, it makes sense from a marketing perspective. And yes, they will complain, but the complaint will not be because they spent 30 minutes trying to force a non-functional system to work, only to be rewarded in the end with failure. A nice clean fail is always to be preferred. And who knows, maybe they'd have a better distribution of products to customers if everybody was able to easily get on and order their one single product instead of a poorly written website forcing additions.
