Hello everyone. I ran across some modern coins/rounds that definitely remind me of some ancient coins I've seen, and thought I'd see what you think.

These are pics from "Dazzling Coins"...

Spain has had a few issues of coins reproducing ancients - up to the 9th series now, I see - http://www.fnmt.es/en/coleccionista/emisiones-2019/ix-serie-joyas-numismaticas

Here are a few of the earlier ones I picked up.

10 Euro / Drachm of Emporion. I visited the ruins of Emporion/Empuriés in 2008 and picked this up in Madrid Airport in May 2009, returning from a wedding, I think.
I've since got a real drachm from Emporion, but this filled the spot for a while:

While the 10 Euro coin is much larger than the original (27g vs ~4g), this is a much smaller gold coin than the aureus it reproduces. It's a 1.24g reproduction of an aureus of Augustus - BMC 317, originally minted in Caesar Augusta (Zaragoza).

Last, but not least, I picked up this at the Madrid mint in 2012 - a reproduction of a Hispano-Punic coin of Hannibal. I was quite happy with this photo' :D

Of course, the owl of Athens persists on the Greek €1 coin, which is in general circulation and I get the occasional one in change.

    ATB,
    Aidan.
