One more post on this thread before it rolls off into the dark corners of [1] 2 3 >> ... Last>> Here are the mintage numbers on the Lynn site referred to by zvez: http://lynncoins.com/mintages.htm
Bacchus I have 3 dealers I work with.... Not trying to ring the bell for any of these folks, but the experience I have had with them has been honest, willingness to work with you, and foremost are truly coin people. I really never do anything on ebay. The relationship I have with these guys is, if they do not have it, they go and get it at local, State and Regional shows. Again not sure if we are allowed to plug anyones business on this fourm, I am new to it and do not want to step over my bounds. If any of the moderators view this post please let me know if it is ok or not to list a business name as an answer to a fourm question. If it is against policy, I will provide you (Bacchus) with a direct email link so we can discuss. Regards to all. RickieB
Hello GDJ... Thanks for the input.. I have gathered that opinion but sort of reluctant to recite it. From my understanding the 1/2 oz size coin is the least desireable therefore the lower mintages..if my budget would allow for 1 oz ers.. I would do it all the time. I really like the size of the 1/2 oz and its look...call me weird but to me it just fits better. Does that make sense?????? I am questioning myself here partners... Howdy Ose Amigo's
If it is to your own site or auctions, no it is not permitted outside the Open or Auction Forums and under the rules for them. But if someone ask if you know of a good dealer, or you are just trying to share what you hope will be helpful information - yes it is permitted to provide a link. And you can always share links & information with others by using the Private Message function. And uh Rickie, you already provided a link to one of your dealers - it's still there. If it was not permitted it would have been gone long ago
Hey GDJ,and Bacchus Seems as though you may have confused me with someone else that posted a dealer link..twas not I sir...as mentioned I am new here..but thank you for the input on do's and dont's. Sir Bacchus, if you read this there are 3 folks I deal with...here ya go (Thanks GDJ) www,coinfinders.com (Scotty) Nem Mexico, #2 Loop Coin and Jewelery Mobile, Alabama two brothers Judge and Frank, known these great guys for 15 years, Texoma Coins another great guy named Ken. All these folks have worked with me and even given discounts when paying cash...no credit card fees equal small disount..better than most I suppose. Other than that I have only dealt with coin show dealers from time to time. What I have found that works good for me is to build a relationship with these folks and let them know your interest...it builds from there. Good luck and good hunting!! Howdy Ose Amigo's
You are correct Rickie - I did get confused. It was Bacchus who posted the link, you merely quoted him. My apologies
RickieB, Thanks very much for sharing your resources. Lynn seems to be drying up, so I prowled around a bit online today and found this source that looks promising: http://apmex.com/shop/shop_gold.asp?orderid=0#10 but I haven't done business with them. I'll take a look at the ones you suggested. Thanks again.
This is no "metal off my overse" GDJ...no need for an apology, I for one appreciate your comments pro or con. I remember back in the 80's when I was doing world gold mostly Chinise, US and some other smaller Countries...did pretty well in most things but have since shifted focus to rebuilding the collection with ~ 90% US. In all forms of the word collection, it is for my young son for years into the future ahead of him. I still dabble a bit in Pandas, Leafs and an occasional Kangaroo,,the latest foreign coin I have added was the 2004 Panda (Palladium) only 8K minted. With the general Chinise population now having the right to own precious metals and pd's low price compared to years past..I thought there would be some future upward potential. So do you concentrate your world gold in any particular area, or do you mix it up? What do you see as promising for your efforts? Take care Sir, hope to run into you one day....
Thanks Bacchus...checked out the site. For what it's worth..some times when going thru a metals exchange business there can be a loss of personal relationship type service, not saying that this is the case with that site, (I have never done business with them before) but I can pretty much count on a raw coin from sources as being right on to what I asked for concerning grade.I That my friend is a real edge... I did notice many slabs listed there as well, which is a good thing.
I avoid slabs because I don't see a reason to pay the premium on coins with virtually no collector markup (except for your 1991 !). One site I found that sells slabs is Cameo CC (I have no experience with them, either): http://www.cameocc.com/webdocs/catalog.aspx I trust my little Acculab scale to verify the coins are real gold: http://www.amosadvantage.com:80/scottonline/productgroup.asp?category=SCLE&part_no=&Tab=c although if I had it to do over again, I would probably get a scale that ammo reloaders use to measure out gunpowder. The range is shorter (maybe 1.5 oz maximum versus 7 oz for the Acculab) but the precision is finer (1 grain versus 0.1 grams). 1.5 oz is plenty for any coin that I buy. I bought a coin on one web site and after I received it I discovered it wasn't the year that I ordered; it was a year that I already had in my collection. A local dealer swapped it for another year for me, so it worked out ok ... that time. Most of the online dealers whose sites I've seen seem to sell the AGEs as bullion; that is, they don't indicate what year will be on the coin (probably a 1999).
Bacchus - you won't have any problems with Cameo CC. They are a bit pricey though. As for slabbed examples of the AGE there is one advantage that comes if you ever decide to sell. It's not the slab that people are willing to pay more for - it's that they don't have to guess about the grade. Rickie - I am not a set collector, with one exception, Netherlands ducats. But I focus my efforts on older world gold, primarily from France and the Low Countries. But I own examples from quite a few countries. My buying criteria is quite simple - if I like it - I buy it. You can see what I collect by browsing the World Forum here on CT.
Here ya go Bacchus.. tell Ken I sent ya over.http://kenschlosser-coins.bigstep.com/category.html?UCIDs=1230620
Thanks, RickieB. And, when I stated that most online dealers sell AGEs as bullion, I should have stated that most online metal exchanges sell AGEs as bullion. The coin dealers who sell AGEs online seem to sell by year.
Agreed Bacchus..you can also try a guy out of New Mexico www.coinfinder.com his name is Scotty..on vacation until the 30th..nice coins from him... RickieB
