Thanks. They don't give much information about the tokens, and they don't have one like mine. Not only is the bus on theirs a mere outline, but mine appears to be a more modern bus design.
Thanks for the reference! However, they don't give much information, and neither they nor Numista have my token. Mine has what I take to be a more modern bus as well as a different style portrait of it.
There are a couple token groups on FB that could be helpful. Search for: The ORIGINAL Tokens, Medals, Ephemera, and Exonumia Group National Token Collectors Association - NTCA Transportation Token Collectors Z Z
Hi Pam, I was able to find the last location of Carolina TX on a lonely East Tx logging road. The remains of the 'town' was only a few large concrete foundation blocks and these indeed were fenced in & on private property. My tokens were dug up on a vacant lot in downtown Houston.
Cool… I wish I could get permission to go to that area they cleared off. I know the family but I’m thinking on it lol! They may say anything I find is theirs lol!
I took a different tack. Instead of researching the token, I researched the Montgomery Transit Lines. I was interested in if my token was in use when Rosa Parks famously refused to give up her seat, one she would have paid the fare with. Turns out it is. The Montgomery Bus Boycott was so effective it bankrupted the company and they ceased operation as such, and so my token would not have been made after 1955.
I was particularly interested in the Rosa Parks connection because, while I never personally met her, I have known her lawyer for over 50 years (and yes, he is still alive and active, although mostly retired).
Really! Very interesting. He is able to tell you many things of history. And who knows, your token was made in 55. If I understand it correctly. History token!
I don't get to see him often now. He has several books about his life. You can google or search Amazon for Fred Gray, Sr. He and my dad and one other man were elders of the Tuskegee Church of Christ for many years. For having lived through those years and being interested in history, I have relatively few historical mementos of the time. We tend to think of important history as being in the distant past and forget that we, too, are making history.
