Gives new meaning to the word "spooning" People actually do that? Who has that much time on there hands?
I would probably get 2 life terms for my mint error collection then! That's your opinion and a very bad one.. It is definitely coin collecting for many of us. There are plenty of books on the subject. You should educate yourself on the subject before crapping the hobby of mint error collecting!
You have made some pretty strong accusations about the mint (lax security), mint employees (thieves), and error coin ownership (stolen property). What makes you think that these coins were illegally taken from the mint by mint employees, and that it is illegal to possess an error coin?
Thanks to everyone who posted their error coins. It would be enlightening and educational to many of us if the associated error terminology and an explanation of the defective minting process were attached to the photos.
Hello Jim. I got a few more unique ones left to post. You are always welcome to come back and check them out. If you keep coming back who knows you may start liking them
If you don't like Mint Errors then stay away from them.. I don't care much for Bullion Collecting but I don't go to that particular forum and start bashing the hobby
@Eric the Red As an avid Mint Error collector here are 3 amazing books I own. I recommend them! The 3rd book was recently published by a member here on CoinTalk.. @JCro57
It is not illegal to own error coins. Even those few which were secretly taken out of the Mint by Mint employees have been given amnesty by the Secret Service. The San Francisco Hoard comes to mind as an example.
I may be to quick on the draw but these types of errors were found regularly up until about 99' in mint bags. And still found today. Most all errors are legit, some of the questionable ones are even possible. And some are as you say, Employee made, even so they are still made by mint presses.
