I was down in a hole with an electrician trying to restore power that a trackhoe operator knocked out when all of this happened. Musta knocked out the mint too. Sorry guys, but if it's any consolation, I didn't get one.
That wasn't directed at you, it was referring to the mint, the government, and the big corps. It definitely stinks in Denmark these days.
Why can't the mint take into account the fact that you have it in your bag and give you a reasonable time to check out, in case this this type of problem arises, instead of immediately giving them to the next person in line?
Stop and think about what you're saying. Does the phrase "market price" give you pause? Or do you think someone should step in to stop dealers from selling, say, 1916-D dimes at more than face value? After all, some people got them at face value; how is it fair to then turn around and sell one at a higher price?
I think that just sort of shifts the "unfairness" around a bit. The issue might have "sold out" in five minutes rather than 10; then, as some people let their "reasonable time" expire without checking out, a few would trickle back and become available. People who had trouble even getting to the shopping page, or who had trouble adding the item to their cart, would still be unhappy. Meanwhile, apparently a few became available early this morning, and were snatched up quickly. Try again tomorrow and Friday morning, and see if the same thing happens again.
The Truman release allowed 5 per household, while this release only allowed 2. I wonder if the extra traffic caused the blip. I experienced it too, but was still able to purchase 2 sets.
True, as credit cards get rejected I imagine a little would leak back out. Its tough. I understand Rick's frustration, yet no simple solution the way they are allocating them now. Listen, I am not a mint regular. So I believe its unfair to me to jump in and get access to deals like this. I have always thought things like this and the 2011 ASE set the mint should only offer to those who have demonstrated commitment to them over the past say 3 years by subscribing to a program, or ordering X amount per year. The mint should have more of a customer collector base focus and really concentrate on rewarding those customers who buy their overpriced proof sets, mint sets, etc with first crack at special offers like this.
Despite being on the 'Remind me' list, I was not informed of this availability. Just another miss by the mint.
On JFK, it all will come down to HH Limit. But even with that, I think someone will speculate and buy a ton of them via proxy. If LBJ stays at 17K, watch out. You'll have those already in the know, those that have been hearing people that were shut out curse all day yesterday, etc etc. Add in that LBJ wasn't the worst president ever. Can't wait for Nixon!! (An aside, was it on here that someone requested a Millard Fillmore RP CC Set? LOL. I'll raise you an Andrew Johnson)
