Great info Rick. I'm gonna change my bookmark too. I logged into the site at 11:58 and loaded the Eisenhower product offering page through 'upcoming products' and sat there waiting for 12:00. At 12:00 I refreshed the page, ordered two items, and then headed for the checkout. That's when things went wonky.......the page dropped, couldn't connect.......tried to refresh.....nothing. So I opened a new tab but that was a no go. Couldn't get in at all. Meanwhile, I saw that my initial tab had re-loaded so I jumped back on that one. Between refreshing and hitting reload I finally made it out at 12:08. I have a preloaded credit card for the site but it wasn't recognized by the site so I was entering info by hand. The site would drop, then reload on a few occasions and each time the stuff I ordered was still there. I'm thinking I'm never gonna get this thing.......finally, at 12:07 I was able to pull up my credit card for the site and complete the checkout process. I count myself very lucky at being able to obtain this offering as I see that others with the same time as me (12:08) wound up seeing 'product unavailable'.
At about 12:05, one of the girls in the office said "what's wrong with you?" Ain't no tellin' what I was sayin'......
Yep same thing for me. I was there before 9am PST and refreshed the page right at 9am. I was in the check out process like a dozen times and kept getting kicked back. Eventually I got the same message that you did rickmp.
Like others, I was on the site early and refreshing. At noon, it got slow, but I was able to get 2 sets and check out. Almost had an issue with the pre-loaded card due to the unique 3 digit number on the back, but made it out alive.
That's always been a hitch with me JP. They ask for it every time I order from them. Do you have to manually enter the three digit number everytime?
Unfortunately yes. That 3 digit number is an added level of security, so by entering it by hand, it indicates you have the card in-hand. After a while, I know we all memorize it, but if someone got a hold of your CC number via hacking, they still won't have the 3 digit code.
Ever since they switch to the new MINT website software I have had to enter the 3 digit security code for my credit card.
I can understand the extra added security by requiring that you enter that number each time.......glad to know I'm not the only one. Thanks guys.
As did I. I was frantically reaching for my CC. I am a bit ticked off I sold at $175 BIN each. I left way too much meat on the bones as they are easily commanding $225-$250. Pretty much $200 bucks profit. But in hindsight, I made $400 on 30 minutes of work.
Thank TinPot for his posting of greed, and the enablers all the way to the top for making it happen. I had to tell my 10 year old nephew that he wasn't getting his set - and try to explain why. For the record, I only tried to buy one, I was on at 9am sharp and the website continued to fail until I finally got it to load properly and it said "the item is no longer available." I feel like going to Ebay and making a few shill buys just to turn around and submarine the deals. But that would be making myself a larger part of the problem. I'm kinda disgusted by the whole deal.
Try to explain why? Tell him because this country is great, and everyone had a fair shot at it, and sometimes you win, and sometimes you lose. It is a great lesson for him
And they will continue. I find it strange that a 'burp' on the mint website just happened to coincide with the issue of this set. Truman was flawless.....heavy traffic, but the site handled everything flawlessly. The mint announces on Facebook that there was some sort of occurrence in other pages on the site but that didn't affect the ordering page for the Eisenhower set.........HELLO.......yes it did! Why would this happen on the very day that the much anticipated Eisenhower set was due to be released? Something smells.........
Typical spin we hear from everywhere these days. It doesn't matter what the true is, paint it with the brush that looks the best for the speaker.
Hey, I don't have an ax to grind. I got mine, but many didn't. I think something is rotten in Denmark.....
I'd be willing to bet the big dealers who were not only offering to buy but also stated they would place the order for customers used automated software that allowed them to pretty much dominate the ordering period traffic. The mints flat out lying about the catalog site being fine the whole time also. As that's what I went through to order and I had multiple issues and just barely got through the check out process when the site went completely down for me.
I think the main page was completely unavailable, and the catalog page was just having crash issues. I kept refreshing and finally got it to work.
