I'd agree that they haven't peaked. I am a collector of these "class" of coins and didn't even know they existed until this thread! (please ignore what that implies about my abilities!)

I've gotten two in the last month: Grand Canyon 2010 and Perry's Victory 2013.

EDIT: Neither one is S mint.

The general public doesn't CARE. Even in the early years when the general public was excited about the state quarters few of them cared about mintmarks. One of each and they were happy. Oh sure some that were filling boards for grandchildren wanted both, but most of them wanted them for face value or maybe 50 cents each. Pay more for an S mint proof? Nah not interested. And I don't think there will be a lot of interest from the general public in the ATB quarters. To most of them it will be "just another state quarter". Forget the Mint's figure of there being 150 million collectors. Most were never collectors, they were hoarders, and when you get to the point of having to PAY more than a few dollars for a coin the number of collectors drops to 2 million or less, and not all of them collect ATB quarters. In most series you don't really start seeing a premium for a coin unless it has a mintage of a million or less. But in the other series the coins were released into circulaion and were worn lost or destroyed so the survival rate is low. The Business strike 2012 S ATB quarters have the million coin mintage, but the survival rate is close to 100% Prices are high now because they are not "evenly distributed". Too many still tied up in hoards. The 1995 proof set had that problem too, and the prices rose to close to $150 a set. That shook them out of hiding and into the marketplace where they got distributed. Today it is an $8 set. Less than issue price.

So long ago that I don't remember for sure.
    BUT
    Probably $13 ± 50¢
More than face but less than face + 50%.

You make some valid points, but to suggest mint marks don’t matter flies in the face of the basis of coin collecting. True, less than 150,000,000 state quarter “collectors” care about mint marks, but still the number who do care is significant and growing. I live in a Denver area and I still sell P mints all day long. There are far fewer examples of coins with similar mintages that didn’t perform well, than those that did. To compare a proof to a business strike is a bit like comparing apples & oranges - far fewer people collect proofs than business strikes. A better example is the 1996-w dime with a mintage similar to the S mint AtB’s, that sells for around $15-$20 even in the lowest grades. These S mint quarters may turn out to be much more desirable than a Roosie Dime. True, it may take longer for the price to stabilize, since most of these S mints are in few hands, so singles will be shaken loose as prices rise. I find many that come into the shop either haven’t given up on finding AtB’s in circulation or don’t know about them and buy anywhere from 5 to 20 of them when they hear about them, as well as a folder/album to house them. The S mints at $3 each are out selling the P&D’s at $1 each because they aren’t issued for circulation. The bottom line is, the AtB’s are an extremely well done, popular theme, low mintage series that has the potential to perform well.

  7. Anyone know what the lowest mintage S ATB circulation quarter is right now? Thanks, TC

  9. Thanks. I guess my gamble on Great Basin did not pay off.

Yeah, Great Basin is 2nd lowest and close at 1,316,500. Looks like the trend is down, so we may see some under a million before the series is done.
