I like the idea of getting them to send a prepaid return label, if that works.

I had to send a (snail-mail) letter, separately from the return parcel, explaining the issue and requesting a refund of shipping. It was worth the time and trouble for 30 or 40 bucks, but not for 5 or 10.

I like that idea too. Much less hassle to just them to pay for the return shipping upfront and cheaper for them overall.

I'll have to give that snail mail method a shot and see what happens

When I called for the return label, they really didn't seem all that interested in WHY I wanted to return the item....
And to be fair, I kinda never gave them a chance - just opened the conversation that I received a damaged product and I like to return it - please send me a prepaid postage label! they never said no, or said we can't / won't or don't do that - I just took it for granted, that if they're going to send you a defective product that THEY have a responsibility to pay the return postage - I'd expect nothing less! Guess they are with me cause they haven't yet refused or given men argument!

Yes back in the days the US Mint was giving us Free shipping for ordering and returns. Now they don't and of course they charge you more for stuff plus ordering

Shoot.......I've got a 70's proof set (around here somewhere) that has a big fat 'X' stamped on the reverse of the 5 cent piece. Don't know how that happened but it is indeed damage. I never returned it. I just ordered another one. People say I'm not 'picky' and they're right. :)

Ooh can we see a photo? That sounds interesting. (The X on the nickel.)

Haven't seen it in years, but I'll have a go at finding it tomorrow. :)

IMHO, based on the image, that is one of the very common struck thru's that cause a break in the surface. If that is the case, it is NOT DAMAGE. While it takes the coin out of "perfection," several of the TPGS's allow these Mint-made defects to slide.

PS Coins from the Mint in sealed packages can be found with actual damage. I've heard that one of the directors of a TPGS kept a damaged proof or mint set in his desk to show folks who believed the grading service damaged their coins as all collectors know the Mint does not sell damaged coins.

Sorry Michael. I can't find the blasted thing. I must have gotten rid of it because it ain't with any of the proof stuff.
