A friend has 2 "2004 Peace Nickel coin and die set" from the US Mint.
They have mint issued serially numbered COA's (4280961 and 4064113).
We've never seen anything like this and were wondering if anyone
could tell us more about them.
    Thanks.

They are pretty much just what they say they are. For a time the mint was selling these things. They'd take a canceled die and a coin (or coins) and sell them as a set on their web site.

    Not much to it really.

I remember seeing statehood quarter sets like that. I want to say that they were selling for about $50, but I could be way off.

I looked around to find that they are not too special. Now I know what they are and I can tell my friend.
She inherited quite a pile of numismatic material from her father. She was not to happy to find out that her 1933 $20 gold piece was fake. Except for 2 $50 AGE, all of her "gold" coins are fake. I pointed out the word "copy" on all of them. She's not too happy about that. She does have quite a few silver coins. I've been helping her to determine a value on her things. Lots of mint and proof sets. Lots of loose coins, older silver and copper. It'll take a while to sort the wheat from the chaff, but it will all soon be up on Ebay.
