So, y'all mind if I make myself cozy and stay awhile? Now that we've got the authenticity of my boyfriend's mecury dimes all settled, I've decided to start collecting a bit myself (along with my daughter, of course) Who knew this was so fun? My daughter's collecting all foreign coins she can find regardless of value (she loves foreign money), the state quarters, and likely the walking liberties. For her it's all about how pretty the coin is, not about completing a set or having something valuable. She'd rather have a pretty 2006 canadian cent than a rugged looking 1943 copper wheat penny (not that I've found one of those!) I'm more of a completer. I'll collect things I think I can finish and I love to find things. I'm the type that takes pleasure in hunting down a bit of troublesome code in hundreds of lines of code. Nothing is as exciting as finding that misplaced comma! Well, I've found that sorting through coins and finding something interesting gives a similar thrill, so yeah...I'm hooked. I've started on pennies and jefferson nickels just because it gave me an excuse to buy rolls of change to search through and "kick start" my collection :P I bought five rolls of nickels and seven rolls of pennies. Out of the five rolls of nickels I found 4 pre 1961 nickels, with the oldest being a 1940. Amazing! That was definitely my thrilling find of the day, a 67 year old circulating coin! Out of the pennies I found a 1954D wheat penny (another fun find), three canadian cents (my daughter will be thrilled) and 8 other pre 1970 pennies, oldest being a 1959D I'm not sure where it'll go from here, but I'm having a great time so far :)
