masterswimmer A Caretaker, can't take it with me

Out of curiosity @mpcusa , are the mpc's still being printed and used in today's military?

Are the already issued mpc's you and others have still spendable in the commissary?

No. MPCs are no longer printed or used. U.S. military does use a type of gift certificate for small change in deployed locations which come in 5, 10, and 25¢ denomination. These are known as AAFES POGs and are only redeemable in Exchanges (stores on base).

@masterswimmer Here is a scan I took a couple years ago to give you an idea what the POGs look like:

MPC was only valid in facilities outside the US. The last series was used in Korea and was demonetized in 1973.

@mpcusa These are some beautiful pieces of paper. I have a few military notes, mostly WW II, and mostly foreign countries, Japan and France.
    I thought I was a collector of such........until I saw yours.:bigtears::jawdrop::wideyed::shame:

    WOW

Question : Are any of the people depicted on the notes real people, such as the Marilyn Monroe note?

Notes yes but they are not famous people. AAFES POGs definitely they have presidents - heroes and celebrities (ELVIS)

So, they are real people, just not famous people?
So, who are these real people depicted on the notes?

A good majority of the designs and depictions are taking from earlier notes
Both military and non, for example, the Series 641 and 651 are basically
The same note, the only difference is the minute man on the far left.

Here,s the Series 641 $5 and the 651 $5, Id like to point out that the Series
651 $5 in 68PPQ is not only a 1-1, but has one of the lowest printing totals
of only 1,600,000 sounds like allot, but in the MPC world its an extremely
Low number, most common issues are 4 to 5 times that or more !

    Series 641 $5

The women on Series 611 are not real people.

Chief Hollow Horn Bear appears on the 692 $10.00 and Chief Ouray is on the $20.00.
Ed White is the astronaut on the back of the 681 fractionals. The sailors in the tower on the USS Thomas A. Edison have all been identified on the face of the 681 fractionals. The sailor on the 681 $5.00 is also known. They are named in the MPC catalog.

See post #59 below for a more complete answer than I could provide. The reason
that real troops are used is because the government does not need permission to use the likeness of any service member.
