This may not be the right Forum to post this but it is paper money. I have numerous pieces of Military Payment Currency, even some I brought back from Korea in the late 50's. I cannot find any kind of a guide to determine the value of these certificates. Ebay sales are the best I can find but that's not much. Any hints. Beside US there are a lot of British armed forces certs. Thanks in advance.
Price guides are worthless. Recent sales/auctions will give you a better idea of value. I can't remember if the references have prices in them but the last one was put out several years ago. See "Comprehensive Catalog of Military Payment Certificates" by Fred Schwan or "A Concise Catalog of U. S. Military Payment Certificates" by Carlson R. Chambliss. I hope this helps.
I recommend to search the auction archives at Heritage. It’s free to become a member and it’s a wonderful resource. Link https://currency.ha.com/us-currency/
Feel free to post pictures to share your collection! MPC is something I've long wanted to get into more. I only have a couple common notes.
The last edition of Schwans book was 2003 at the height of MPC prices. The prices in that catalog are high across the board. The prices on replacements are especially high. He has been promising a 5th edition but that has yet to come to pass. I doubt the catalog prices will change much. There is a catalog of British Armed Forces Special Vouchers and a separate one for British Military Authority notes. Both are by Theo Van Elmpt. These are excellent references if you can find them. Like Schwan the prices are a little high but he breaks down BMA notes by block letter to show the scarcer ones.
First of all, yes your in the right place As far as value goes, especially on MPC,S, i personally have been collecting For over 20 years now, first starting in the ungraded category then moving On to investment quality MPC, the first thing you have to understand is Something is only worth what someone else is going to give you for it Period, so there,s no guide to really use also i dont trust ebay to be a good Source either, as there are allot of people that over pay, and then there The Auction houses a decent source but not always accurate, remember Your dealing with a small amount of collectors here, so you have to have Something special, that,s the key, i would be more then happy to evaluate Your collection and give you a general idea of what everything is worth 99% of my collection is TPG graded so quality and value are not an issue. here,s a couple key notes from my collection, just so you can get a good Idea.
I have over 500 of these MPC,S and most 67PPQ and up, if you would like To see more let me know, there,s plenty more where those came from.
Great group. I'm not in that class. I got mine in a cigar box at a yard sale. There were about 22 in the box. Didn't know what I was buying at the time but for $5 I took a chance. Some are not in good shape and there are a few foreign bills in with them. I may get back to you when I get them organized. Thanks for replying. Great collection you have there.
You can still enjoy collecting these notes in less than pristine condition. Check places like you local coin store or Wizard Coin Supply (website) and you can buy currency sleeves for a three ring binder and start filling slots with your notes.
I never knew they were a collectible till I was searching ebay for US currency and saw how many different MPC's there were for sale.
