Yesterday, my wife and I got a box of pennies from our local Wells Fargo. As we began to go through the rolls, both of us noticed that the pennies coming out of them had different colors and tones than any other boxes we had gone through before. We are kind of new to this coin deal but we have had our share of coin rolls to notice this. After i did some research we came to the idea that these beautiful, high grade pennies were possibly proof sets. Like I said, we are fairly new to this and this is just a guess. When i get home from work ill post pictures of the coins to see what kind of feedback i get.

If they look really glossy and "sharp", then they are most likely proof coins. If they have the usual cartwheel luster that spins around when you tilt the coin, then they are not proofs. Also, proof should look a bit like a blurry mirror. Write some design or a sign on a piece of paper and put it up next to the coin and see if you can see the design almost clearly by looking at the coin. If so, it is most likely a proof. But we can't really help you much until we have pictures, so send us some as son as you can. Hopefully they're all proofs!

They look like normal business strike coins to me.

Proof coins, especially the newer ones, would have major variations in appearance from other circulating coins. Yours just don't have this appearance.

Some of them are still in really nice condition though ;)

Sorry, but all are regular circulated business strikes. No Proofs

Note: 1959 to 1964 are all Philly products- therefore no mintmarks

1969 to date: all San Francisco proofs, with an S mintmark.

except for, possibly, the Wheaties, all the rest are spenders

Proofs, even circulated proofs, will seriously have a background like a mirror.
