<p>[QUOTE=&quot;Old Texas Reb, post: 2915532, member: 91220&quot;]I&#039;ve got quite a few really nice Mexican coins from all eras in my inventory.&nbsp; I started dealing in Mexican coins about 1965.&nbsp; My favorite eras are the Cap &amp; Ray 8 Reales of the Republic period (1824-1897) and the coinage of the Mexican revolution (1910-1920).</p><p><br /></p><p>When you&#039;re working in these areas, its very important to learn which Republican 8 Reales mints had typically weak strikes and which revolutionary states had the same.&nbsp; Then, you can go through someone&#039;s stock and pick the exceptions.</p><p><br /></p><p>One example:&nbsp; The Zacatecas mint Cap &amp; Ray coinage from 1825 to roughly 1850 are struck flat as a pancake, showing virtually no detail on the obverse cap &amp; rays or the reverse eagle &amp; snake even on Unc. examples.&nbsp; A few years ago I bought an 8 real 1843 Zs O.M. in lovely Au/Unc. with full &quot;LIBERTAD&quot; on the cap and sharply struck rays.&nbsp; On the reverse, the eagle had almost a full snake and virtually all of the feather details on the eagle.&nbsp; Like the other common 8R this guy had for sale, it was priced at $20.&nbsp; I didn&#039;t even try to dicker, just bought it!&nbsp; Turned down $75 from a dealer a couple of years ago and still have it&nbsp; I&#039;ve only seen about half a dozen of them that nice from early Zacatecas in over 50 years.</p><p><br /></p><p>At the same show for $15 I bought a lovely well struck 1 Peso 1914 of Guerrero EF+ with nice luster and toning and a full snake on the eagle.&nbsp; The dealer had only graded it VG/F because of the normal crudity of this coin.&nbsp; Still have that one too.</p><p><br /></p><p>When I get more time, I&#039;ll get my wife to scan these on both sides and reduce the images to normal size with Photoshop and include them in another message.[/QUOTE]</p><p><br /></p>
