Hello everyone, been going through some old Mexican coins and I came across a couple of these old coins and was wondering can anyone tell me what the letters and numbers mean on the back of these coins which are located above the 10? Would appreciate any info on these coins you can give me Thank you
The 1879 HOA is an Km 403.6 Rare find The 1888 CAM is a Km 403.1 299,000 minted Im thinking the 902.7 is silver content. These are the Republic of Mexico coins rare low mintages
The letters are the mint mark and the 902,7 is the silver purity of the coin (.9027 pure). Ho A - Hermosillo Mint, Mintmaster Jesus Acosta Ca M - Chihuahua Mint, Mintmaster Manuel Merino The second one is rather hard to tell, but it looks like 1890: Go RS - Guanajuato Mint, Mintmaster Rosendo Sandoval
As an FYI I sold a bunch of these on eBay a few months ago and they consistently realize a lot more than their book value would suggest. I was getting rid of the lower quality coins in my collection yet still getting $5-$10 for 5 and 10 centavos coins that the book showed as basically $2 coins.
