    I think your coin has been subjected to environmental damage. Perhaps our resident metal detectorist @paddyman98 can show you images of similar coins.

    Yes Environmental Damage.. Can cause color changes on a Nickel and also the Clad Layer on Clad Coins. Here are examples that I have detected over the years -
