I found some Chinese coins that were from the 1700's. But not worth much.
After that I have 1929 Lincoln 1939 Jefferson (1944-S war nickel) 1944 Merc.
    1944 2 Annas India. 1976 Eisenhower.
But I am not really searching old sites. Too much work. The ground here is like cement, it never rains. Digging a hole and replacing sod is backbreaking.
And they have all been picked over and searched to death here. So what I do is urban treasure hunting. Parks and schools. Many of the school playgrounds are open here on the weekends.
I prefer to go out and bring back 100 targets in a few hours, to working in a field all day and coming back with one environmentally damaged wheatie.

Alot of what I've found has been in my own yard. Don't get out as much as I'd like, darn life gets in the way. Lol

Serious scrounge, but I knew it would be. The nickel is 1954-D (figures).
The broken ring might be silver. NVC designers initials.

I took your advice on this and found I've done much better in schools and parks. Under bleachers with gravel and in front of concession stands.

When I was in Colorado I didn't find many nickels except 1 time. (20 years ago) it was the day after the 4th of July and the kids must have been throwing them around, cause I found 33. (And a bunch of quarters).
Now I have 1600 nickels in jars in the garage.
The designers initials on the ring (NVC) uses quality materials, so it looks good.

I've had a couple of 7 quarter spills and a 5 quarter spill.
Penny spills are common. Usually they are mixed there will be a couple of dimes and some pennies and a nickel all in the same cluster.
One time I was digging up a Susan B and there was a quarter sitting right on top of it.
