Wow,you just never know huh. That's really disappointing I bet? But hey,you didn't buy the stuff and it's all good when it's free!!!! OK cool, ill have to get there soon. I'm really wondering about that chain, fingers crossed.
Well, with the first piece (the religious medallion) it was completely roached. I tried to clean it and couldn't. So even when I saw the 14K I was very doubtful it was real, as gold shines up easily and will hold it's luster. I took it to my gold guy and he scratch tested it and said it was brass. In fact he said it was tri metal. Brass, copper and nickel silver. He then took some nitric acid, and cleaned it up, AND IT LOOKS GREAT now. The second piece I knew it was also brass, but I took it and and again he cleaned it with nitric acid (no charge). I did sell a lot of gold there and even bought some silver coins, so I am a customer, but it was nice of him to clean up those pieces which looked much better when he was done. I also have 2 fake silver pieces that are stamped and they are junk. Bad photo, but you get the idea:
This is the Double head Jefferson nickel I pulled up today. I think this is the coolest thing ever. What do you guys think?
So they are smashed together? Pretty nice. When I found a counterfeit quarter in a Coin Star, at first I was disappointed. It fooled me. It was pretty shiny so I took a closer look and realized it was fake. And then I thought, NO THIS IS EVEN BETTER!
From what I can see it's a normal nickel. Are all Double headed coins fake? Or are there real mint errors like this?
Well yours can't be an error because it has 2 different years. Even if a nickel fell into the coining press, you would still have other details from the original and new coin with both sides. The counterfeit quarter is the right size. The weight is just slightly off. (Heavier?) I think it is steel? So the machine rejected it for "wrong metal". The details are mushy. I believe it was originally created from an actual coin, but over time the die they used deteriorated. And the rim is awesome.
I throw a lot of stuff away. Things like keys I will leave out, in case the owner comes back, they can find it sitting on a bench or someplace visible.
I've got a LOT of random crap that has accumulated over the years I should go bury some of that stuff in random places.
Dang, thats a lot of targets. I've only gone out once this week. Planning to go tomorrow morning and sat. Still learning this machine, but I'm getting there.
Yes when you get a lot of pennies, the target count is high. I was happy with the dollar coin because they have been scarce this year. I went Saturday/Sunday so it was around 25/75% targets and money. Sunday is my main day, and Saturday I try and hit a few scroungy spots, which I know are not great, and I only have to hit them once or twice a year as opposed to my good spots that I hit 4,5,6 times a year.
Record spill. 51 coins including 18 quarters. Short 2 hour hunt. Hit another small spill and then the last target of the day was a dollar coin. The spill is minus the stuff at the top right, which was also found at the site.
I'm inspired to get my detector out - I bought it for our occasional Florida beach vacations. My only "Find" so far is a worn out buffalo nickel - in my back yard.
I haven't seen any 2019 quarters in circulation, and yesterday I found both of them detecting. Today I picked up some nice low mintage El Yunque and Chaco Culture. The El Yunque may replace my album coin after some acetone.
