I went to a nice park today that had nothing but pea gravel covering the whole sight..made for some easy pickings. This was all I could round up and 3 quarters that are still soaking. I'd like to see and hear some other stories about people out searching for treasure. HH
I used my uncle's "minesweeper" in the 1990s to search a local hilltop where Hessions had fired cannon. The Battle of Iron Works Hill. Too much fallen leaf debris, 4 inches down was 1970s cig foils, beer can tabs, and bog iron rust spots everywhere. I love that the new detectors dont just beep over any metal, they have a magnetic sensor that tells you the metal. I tested my fathers new Whites detector on coins in his yard.
Very nice https://www.cointalk.com/members/paddyman98.44615/love the cars! Do you find many brass waterhose sprayers? I find one almost everytime I go out. And if I may ask, what's the oldest coin you have ever found?
I haven't done much detecting because of tresspass laws in my area. The few good spots are scoured by regulars. I've done respectful woods detecting and found a lot of railway tidbits or old style nails at ruins. Battlefields have a legal loophole of private property for searching. The monet/minnie balls recovered sell cheap still. Every time a hurricane hits Florida I dream of Atocha type spanish treasure that's been stuck in a reef or sand buried. The goodies wash on the freshly exposed sand thats just revealed its own secrets...
So this is what I got for and hour at the park not too bad. 5xquarters 1xcanadian 7xdimes 1x Grateful Dead button 1xnickel One of the coppers was a 56 13xzincions wheat. Not a bad hour! 7xcoppers Paddyman I'll never beat your hauls lol.
10xcoppers,6xzinc rots,4xdimes,and one fake silver necklace. I'm taking the stone out to go in the little bag I keep stones in. HH all!
Very nice Michael, it's always nice finding free gold. Keep posting your finds, I love to see all this cool stuff. What kind or rig do you use? I only have a cheap one but it works well enough, but it took me a while to learn the sounds it makes for certain metals. I'm saving to get a better one. I'm looking for one in the $200 range, can you recommend something?
Been using a cheap one and it works fine. The only problem is the cheap caps for the 9 volt keeps breaking a wire. I have a friend who has been fixing it for me, I know what needs to be done but I don't have the skills or tools. Here are most of my silver (and gold) and dollar coins and halves over the last 2 years.
Here are some tungsten and stainless steel rings. There's one ss ring not pictured which is a size 14. Must have belonged to the Incredible Hulk. The ss ring I am wearing with the Celtic knot design is a size 10.
I'm semi-retired from detecting now, but here are some reposts of a few of my older stories. "Digger's Diary" Stories "I call this one 'THE' Coin" "The House on Hanover Square" "The London Street Coinshooting Adventure" "The Small Squares of Brunswick- First Digs of 2008" "The Hagey House and First Silver of 2008" "Return to Hagey House: the Sequel" "An Afternoon In the Mayor's Yard" "Operation Cobweb" "Back to Black Banks" "The Arcadius Anomaly" "Highlights of my 2013 metal detecting week in England" Videos
I seldom find as much jewelry or modern change, because I prefer the sites where the older coins hide. These sites often have a lot less clad and Zincolns (and coins in general), and the trash types tend to be different, but when I do get a coin, it is often an older one. Which isn't to say there aren't Memorial cents and clad dimes almost everywhere. Jewelry and clad quarters can certainly make some of those "modern" sites fun, though. Nice work on those rings!
The ground here is like cement, and has been searched to death. So I am hunting clads. The silver is a bonus. 2 golds this year.
I didn't mean to double post. I must have thought there were 2 threads. Sorry. The dollar coins have been a little slower this year. Although I am only going out on Sundays. Last year I went Sat and Sun. I was happy with the Eisenhower, and it was a spot I searched before and missed. I prob got a signal and thought it was an iron bar or something. I went through 2 LONG silver droughts of 2 and 3 months, and the last month or 2 have been good for that.
