Great year Ed. Looking forward to your 2023 season. I enjoy the stuff you find. My collection is basically from the wild.
I don't know what a "seeded hunt" is, but can't you tell that the ground has been disturbed? Or are they just hidden on the surface? Great finds for the year, thanks for posting, I always look at your threads.
They don't dig a hole then bury the coins. It's a special tool that looks like a long flathead screwdriver with a notch at the end. The coin is placed in the notch then pushed into the ground about 2 to 4 inches. They seeded 1000 different silver coins and dimes with counterstamped numbers the day before and had 1 person watch the entire field overnight until the event. 150 detectorists participated in the event. I found one clad dime with the number 19 counterstamped into in. That's how I won the metal detector. It was prize number 19
Ah, thanks. Must be some soft ground. Around here you'd need to pound that tool in with a sledgehammer.
You have a lot of nice finds. I wouldn’t even know where to start looking with a metal detector to find all that treasure. I have detected on some beaches but only find modern coins and sometimes cheap jewelry. Best I’ve ever found is a gold toe ring worth about $150. Not something I would use.
I thought about it. Since I scuba dive I have been in a lot of places that I would like to detect. My detector is a cheap one that I’ve had for years. I would need to get one that would work underwater.
Easy way to loose weight. Tie wounded tuna to swim fin + swim in shark infested water = lost of weight. One way or another. LOL
