What a find! According to Walter Breen 1853 A&R quarters remained in circulation as late as the 1940s.
Awesome day out in the field Eddie. Congrats on the bucket lister. As far as the sidearm hanging in the tree, it looks very NY compliant It's missing both the trigger and the cylinder. Definitely how the gulag, uhhh I mean NY would allow you to have possession of it within the NYC boroughs. Nice day MD'ing.
I really was tired since I worked overtime that morning. And I needed to spend time with my wife. I was a needed find and reward for that day.. But I'm definitely going back to the same area in about 2 weeks. Thanks
So here are my 3 Seated Liberty coins I have detected. 2 have been a Prospect park Brooklyn and 1 in Siegel Park in the Bronx NYC..
@PamR I have a dozens of Metal Detecting threads. Some with a few of my videos on YouTube. Now you can see me and my adventures
We lived in Tennessee a few years and a friend lives in a home that was saved during civil war. She said there is or was a kitchen cellar below and they have a bunch of land. I told them I would be digging everywhere and find some way to get below. I bet you would find anything that may be there.
@Gam3rBlake You want to try metal detecting? I've been at it for 13 years. It is a great hobby! Check out my video in the beginning
SPLENDID, MAN!!! That horseshoe brought luck! I'm so stoked for you! I only found one Seated quarter in my detecting days. It too had arrows, but not arrows and rays. It was an 1855 I found in Tennessee. It's nowhere near as nice as your 1853. It is SO cool that you not only got a Seated quarter, but a one-year type coin as well!
I would really like to get more into metal detecting. My brother and I used to do it from time to time, but he has since retired from coins and gave me his detector. Now all I need to do is to find somewhere here in Beaver Dam, WI to use it.
