Bullsquid,

In my opinion, the White's brand of metal detectors are about the best you can buy unless you can afford the $4,000 + price tag for a Minelab GPX 4000 which serious Gold Prospectors go after! I have owned quite a few White's metal detectors since about 1979 and have found lots of coins, rings and other collectible and non-collectible stuff. When I worked and lived in the Florida Keys, I found a 1953 (my birth year) Franklin Half Dollar on Sands Beach in Key West that was some 3 or more feet down. I also located a hollow spot in the entrance (which is about a 10 foot long archway) of the old Fort just off White Street and let the Officials (it is a State Park and kept up by the Key West Horticulture Club) know that I thought that there was a room or some other kind of void underneath the entrance. Well, it took them a few weeks to get the approval to dig up the entranceway into the Fort and when they did, they found a chamber with several cases of Civil War rifles that were still packed in grease. They quickly shipped out the rifles to the State of Florida for their' Museum, to the Civil War Museum and to the Smithsonian and I did not even receive a thanks. Oh well, I have been treated worse! I currently have a White's 6000/D Series 2 and have already found some coins and a Railroad spike in my yard. I am almost certain that the Railroad actually ran in front of my home during the Civil War and that Union and Confederate Troops probably marched through and maybe even battled in my yard. One of these days, I will get around to making a grid search of my property and hope to find some real nice Civil War relics!

Well anyways, I am not saying that the White's metal detectors are the best, just that they have been the best for me! It is all in what you are comfortable with! By the way, you can usually find some decent metal detectors on eBay and sometimes can pick them up cheap at yard sales and even Pawn Shops. Good luck!

Frank
