    Hi,
I was bored so I went out today to do some detecting. I found some US Coins..
    25C - 4 each
    10C - 5 each
    1C - 11 each
    1 Sterling Silver ring

So now I have some more examples of Environmental Toning to the Clad Layers of Quarters and Dimes. Years of exposure to the elements will do this to the Cupro-Nickel Clad :yack:
Many times these are mistaken for missing clad errors by newbies -

I also found this 1974 Cent which was damaged by the blades of a grass cutter. Also can be mistaken as a mint error. DEFDAM indeed!

    Finally my Sterling Ring!
What does Stering actually mean? What would be the silver content?

I found the ring on the internet -

Sterling is .925 silver. Nice little haul for a nice Saturday afternoon.

I'm pretty sure you're mistaken about that 1974 being damaged. I don't want to argue with you but I've seen hundreds of them like that. They get jammed in the coining chamber and since the law states the Mint must make a profit they get released into the public sector. LOL

You were able to get your wife a nice present (ring) in the middle of the COVID-19 outbreak. Good job.

I haven't found much of anything lately.

    Ugh.

The beaches will probably be empty this summer

    Hi Paddy,
    Thanks for posting your finds.
When I was actively MD hunting, back in the Jurassic era, I recall digging a 1942
'merc' w/ almost the exact cutting pattern exhibited on your 1974 cent.
    Nice ring!
    Cheers,
    J.T.

    Paddy,
I noticed you are using a Minelab™ detector & I've heard good things about them from the get-go. I recall when they 1st came on the market ,late Jurassic, and they were
made in Australia (?). (Maybe it was that they were being used extensively in Aus.)
Looks like you've mastered your machine anyhow.
I still have my 2 Tesoro™ Golden Sabers, replete w/ 'Notch Discrimination'. Not great for anything deeper than 7", but I could get a good signal then dial the notch up to 6-1/2 & know 90% of the time if it was silver or not! ~Great Memories~
    Happy Hunting,
    J.T.

Some nice finds. Do you eventually spend your finds or collect them,
putting them into albums or 2x2's?

Modern clad coins and Cents go into the Coinstar machine every 4 months or so.
Silver coins go into 2x2 flips.
Rings go into a special case.. I need another case because I ran out of room for the new rings.

Great finds! Which Minelab detector do you have? I have a Minilab but it is for finding gold nuggets. It's a SDC 2300. I like it because it does not sound off on hot rocks. Less digging. :)

Don't hunt beaches, just old houses and such, and have been doing it for over 40 years in and around Orlando. Of course the soil here is pretty much sand so it's about the same. Here's my bucket of around 1200 quarters that I found in the last 20 or so years. There's some silver ones in there but the newer types show the same toning that yours do.
