Definitely. NYC Department of Parks has a yearly Permit that we need to carry. It's free. They also provide a list of the NYC parks and beaches that are allowed to detect. If the park is not on the list then it can't be detected.
Paddyman98 runs the ny park district now, he doesn't need permissions, he even had the hours extended so more people could come and leave stuff behind, can't wait for his anticipated emporium to open...like his selfies , you can tell when he is in stealth detector mode...so stern and resolute..could have been on Seinfeld...
To anyone who detects: If you ever see the word: Preserve on the sign: Do NOT go or try to detect there. You could get into a lot of trouble.
Another nice haul. Good Job Bunny, but 10 HOURS! Does your wife pay you by the hour so you'll stay away? LOL Good thing they didn't see you pick it up or they may have confiscated your equipment. LOL
I was just getting ready to say, I'm surprised you don't need a permit to detect there and was getting ready to post and then I read this. lol Nice finds. You cleared that section out wherever you were. I'd hate to be the guy that shows up behind you some day. I detected an old homestead from the early 1800s one time and all I found was an old Model T style license plate and a modern Lincoln cent 6" down by a tree. It had to have been gone over.
Cool Stuff Paddy. There was a place called the conference house in Staten Island. It is at the end of Hyland Blvd. facing Jersey. Colonial residence at one time. Restaurant last time I heard. But has a beach near it and used to have woods. It was said that Ben Franklin met British for some talks there hence the name conference house. You might want to Google map it to see if it is huntable. I realize the Bronx is far but it popped in my mind. The Friends School and Stuyvesant Park are worth a look at if possible as well.
Wonderful considering New Amsterdam/ New York has some serious coinage history for the USA. Never know what you might find.
