Hello everyone, This morning I did a 4 hour Metal Detecting hunt at McCarren Park in Brooklyn NYC. I want to start with this neat medallion which was really deep in the ground which depicts the Greek god Mercury.. 2 Silver Mercury Dimes 1926 & 1927 4 Wheat Cents Steel Ring Everything Miscellaneous Pictures
Your steel ring looks like the outer race of a bearing, like this: The groove on the inside is where little ball bearings would sit. I have torn many of these apart.
I believe you are correct. I was thinking why would they make the inside of a ring with such a strange groove. Thanks!
You did good once again Paddy. It was a nice day here except for the 30 plus mph wind. It even tore a piece of flashing off of the roof. 2 days and 1 night of strong winds. Hopefully you did not have winds like this while you were enjoying your hobby. I like the Mercs but I really find that medallion fascinating.
Nice finds! It's fun to find what I call... "What the heck is it" items and trinkets. BTW: I hope you washed your hands after handling those Mercury dimes....
I thought roller bearing shell myself when i saw the ring.. very nice haul but that mercury medal is a real interesting piece
I woke up this morning and I thought of something. The location that I found the item. I remembered that I detected it right in the location of the Skate Park area of McCarren Park!
