My daughters got a surprise gift wrapped and under the tree from Thumbs, our cat. A cell phone (free minutes after 7:00pm) for each of them! They have been begging for a couple of years and our answer had always been NO, not till you drive. Well they are getting close (15 and 13) so we broke down. Nothing but smiles all day long! Oh - I got an Xbox 360 and all the works from the wife to feed my other hobby. (I do the cooking, though). Merry Cristmas oh - btw - Santa brought me Bonedigger's latest contest prize too! What a day!
All though I have had a number of opportunities in the past to acquire these two coins, minted at the Denver mint, in order to finish my Oregon Trail commemorative set, I just never got around to doing it. So out of the blue, this morning my better half up and presented me with both the 1933D and 1934D half dollars. Both mid-range MS coins and match the rest of the set perfectly, could not have done better myself. I would say this was a Christmas to remember in the way of numismatics.
well... not much in the way of coins.. MS-6? Peace, MS-6? WV Quarter, XF Buffalo nickel 1929.. also got $323.00 cash, and it looks as if that's going to be spent on a new snowboard and a new surfboard.
Think of the nice CC Morgan dollar you could get with that Or some good old coin books for reading!!! One thing I'm saving up for soon is to take the ANA Diploma Program---don't know if it will ever help me much but I've been wanting to take it for a few years now....now that I'm almost done with school (!!!!! ) maybe I'll take it. Never know....maybe something in it will help me get a job working with coins someday! Speedy
With all you know already perhaps you should be thinking about doing your own coin thing vs working for somebody. With the internet it could start out as being something on the side on ebay or something and take it from there. Remember, few people get rich working for someone else and it is good to be your own boss and only answer to yourself.
I've thought about it and do sell some.....but where a dealer has to sell and not collect...that kills it for me....I know there are a few dealers around here that might be interested sometime down the road but most of them are in high-end coins.... I'm not looking to get rich....but being my own boss does sound nice! Speedy
This Ford pick-up is actually a '68-'67-'74-'80, etc, etc, etc, much like Johnny Cash's GM car. The rear-end is mostly 3/4-ton (F250), whereas most of the front end is 1/2-ton (F100). The 360 V-8 gets 12 mpg mountain-highway. The main leaf-springs are from a '74 Bronco. The front coils are for an F-250 (circa 1980). The new right fender, right door, and hood will be from a '67 F-250 Ranger. Finishing up the body work. The four-speed transmission is from a '74 F-250. The radiator was designed for a one-ton van. The shift lever is a modified thing from a mystery car, maybe an old Mustang. The differential is from a '72 F-250. The truck has a 1/8-inch steel plate in the bed, a Maxon lift gate, and Hellwig overload springs. Manual brakes and steering. No air-conditioning. It has been a working (field) truck for 37 years and cost $2476.00, out the door. No smog certificates required.

Managed to educate my family enough so that non-coin-collectors still got me great coin gifts lol... for Christmas received the Whitman Red & Blue Books, a 1/10 ounce American Gold Eagle... and gift cards that I used to purchase an 1848 large cent as already mentioned, and a 1965 proof set of East Caribbean coinage. Had a great Christmas, hope everyone out there did the same (or whatever other holiday you may have celebrated around this time)!
Mystery Possibly Solved As you may recall, my "Christmas mystery" involved the almost magical appearance of an old deer skull by the front door. Was it a coyote, a stray dog, or some mysterious forest animal? I mounted up my wildlife camera on the Japanese Maple tree and look what I found. Notice that the culprit is looking over his shoulder to see where the rest of the family is hiding out. The old deer skull is hidden behind the bush. How clever!
