Wish You and Your Family a Happy Christmas! And a Bountifull New Year! Hopefully you will add many nice coins to your collection in 2020.
My two sons and their families came to visit for the holidays. They've been here for 4 days. Now don't get me wrong. I love both my sons and my grandchildren, and I'm looking forward to Christmas morning with the children. However, there is a reason 70 year olds do not generally have children!!!!!!! Oh, but otherwise, Merry Christmas! Remember why we celebrate.
In Roman times, Santa used a ship, not a sleigh. Santa LAETITIA = gladness/riches (according to google translate thesaurus). It only takes a little primary evidence to debunk the modern myth of how Santa delivers gladness and riches.
I'm not sure whether I can support this hypothesis. The coin below seems to give contrary evidence. It clearly shows one of Santa's elfs riding Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer, the glorified pack animal whose main task was pulling the sleigh. Maybe there were regional differences in the exact mode of present delivery? Or the gift logistics changed in the years between Postumus and "Tetricus"? "Tetricus I" or similar, Roman Empire, barbarous radiate, late 3rd century AD, unofficial mint in Gaul or Britain. Obv: [...] I II II, bearded, radiate head of Santa Claus r. Rev: V I [...]; elf riding on reindeer l.; 13–14mm, 1.38g. Ex Ken Dorney. () Merry Christmas to all of you!
Happy holidays everyone! I have to do some work today, and look forward to spend some time with family. Cheers!
Those are two lovely coins, especially the 1st one ! What a great picture of relaxation on that coin .
